Thinking of getting second Master’s degree?

preciosa asked:

Long story short, I have a Bachelor degree in journalism and a Masters in mass communications research. I focused my graduate work on environmental reporting, but halfway through realized I wanted to work at an environmental organization instead of being a reporter. I currently work in marketing at a university, and they will pay for me to take courses at the university. I would like to do a degree that is offered here in natural resources, focusing on natural resource policy and law. They say it can be done mostly online in two or three semesters. I’m wondering if this sounds like a good idea. My eventual goal is to work in environmental policy.

Sure, if it’s only that amount of time and it will be beneficial to what your goal is, do it! Hey, as a favor to me, can you push for the use of natural gas in vehicles? I have 2 of them, and they are cheap to fill up (87 cents a gallon) and cleaner for the environment, too! It’s difficult to get people to change their ways, especially since gasoline prices have dropped recently, but I know this is the way to go and any extra people out there who can push the idea are welcome. We just need to have more pumps put in throughout the nation, which easily could be done with the right incentives. Anyway, good luck to you!

Could you get a doctorate in the same field? If so, I would suggest that. While you will certainly learn something useful when you go for a second master’s degree, a doctorate will also pay off in added prestige and pay.

A doctorate would be most useful. However, I would definitely not get a second masters.
