I’m in great need of scholarships and grants. I know that there is money out there not being used and I’m eager to find it. This past year I attended community college and I didn’t take out any loans. next year I am transferring to a private institution. My EFC on my fafsa=3089. I have to pay it on my own. My mom is single and we can barely afford to live on what she makes. My dad is a deceased minister. My Grandpa was a WWII vet. My dad was in the air force but he wasnt in any kind of war or anything. I need enough to cover all of the costs. I’m getting a transfer scholarship for my grades. It is about 5,000 dollars short not including room and board. I don’t want to take out any loans. I’m trying to get a degree ins Mass Communications-Broadcasting or Television and Radio. The school I picked said I reached the limit for financial aid from them. Any idea where I can get the rest of the money from? Thanks!

But even though you reached the max the school could give you, they usually keep a list of foundations/organizations that offer scholarships/essay contests etc..
Go and ask for this list and then apply to everything you qualify for.
I’m not sure this is what you want (or if it’s good for you) but also, some schools offer some student-jobs on campus (part time stuff like helping in the scholls’ admin office, helping aProf with research)
Hmmm…yes you’re right there is alot of money out there. The problems lies in finding it and getting it. You can try sites like fastweb.com or scholarships.com. I’m a student too so I feel your pain. Have you visited the financial aid office at the school you plan on transferring to? If not go there and tell them everything you listed such as your dad being a deceased minister and an ex airforce pilot. They should be able to help. If they cant I would suggest hitting the library and finding sites online. Sorry to say but you may have to end up taking out a loan. If you do take out a loan, don’t feel bad. I have loans (many students do) that I didn’t want to take out but sometimes you have to do things you dont want to do to get an education.
If you’re worried about having to pay back the loans you could perhaps get a part time job, or work full time in the summer and use that money to pay down your loan while you’re in school, that way you dont have to worry about a huge loan after you graduate. Sometimes the financial aid office can only do so much, alot of the times you’re left with a huge tuition bill and no help, and you have to pay it. Trust me I’ve had plenty of financial aid woes. So my advice is to first see what the financial aid office can do for you. If they can’t help go to the library or look online for some scholarships. Oh yeah while you’re at the library look up Matthew Lesko. He has books on how to get money for anything but be forewarned that some of the info may be outdated but still it’s worth a try. If all else fails either get a loan, a part time job, or both. Good luck =)
